At twenty-three, I've written two novels, a poetry collection, and started a fourth book. None are published yet. This is the story of becoming the writer my stories deserve.
Dua, βIβm Not Behind. Iβm Becoming.β is the sentence that gathers your whole writing life with such grace. The pre-med classroom, your sketchbook as first storyteller, your fatherβs death, the 100k-word milestone, Poetry Highland, the war romance waiting its season, and *The Neuromantic Journey* all become evidence of a writer learning the timing her stories deserve. I especially appreciated your line about readers meeting the woman you became while writing the novel, since that gives publication a deeper meaning than arrival. Grateful for the devotion, imagination, honesty, and patience you brought to this account of becoming the writer your stories can trust.
Thank you so much for such kind words, Rev. That's the main reason I chose this title. πΈπ·π The pressure we feel to publish books in this fast generation is super exhausting and it makes me feel like I'm behind, but I had to tell myself no, I'm not behind, I'm becoming. ππ·πΈ π₯Ίπ» I'm so happy you embraced the essence of my work and paid attention to every detail from pre-med classroom to my sketchbook storytelling. Your words are like warm sunshine which is so good for body, mind and soul. Thank you again. Sending so much love. xoxo
Dua, βIβm becomingβ turns the pressure to publish into permission to honor the writer, the life, and the story still taking shape together. Your attention to timing protects the work from being rushed into the world before it can carry the fullness you are giving it. Iβm grateful my reading felt like warm sunshine, and Iβm even more grateful to witness you choosing growth with patience, courage, and trust.
What a great story and blossoming achievements. What stood out most to me is how even reading this piece slows to appreciation instead of arrival. I envy your talent, but mostly your patience. <3
Wow, that's impressive! I find it really interesting how you described how different stories are probably best told at different ages. On the other hand, I think it's pretty interesting to read the same books at different ages, different things resonate with you to varying degrees then probably π
You have great insight into becoming a writer,' I donβt see this as delaying my dreams anymore. I see it as arranging them.' The patience of becoming alongside developing your craft is an important realisation.
I'm writing my debut novel at nearly 60 because I have been patiently becoming too
